D&S MANUFACTURING NAMES JOHN BARKLEY GENERAL MANAGER

Black River Falls, Wis. — Michael Dougherty, President of D&S Manufacturing, recently announced the promotion of John Barkley to General Manager. “John’s wealth of experience and superior level of commitment, to our organization and our customers, have earned him this position. I am confident he will succeed in leading D&S to new levels of achievement,” remarked Dougherty.

When interviewed about his new role, Barkley stated he is responsible for overseeing the achievement of the company’s four core initiatives: process velocity, material utilization, labor productivity and inventory turnover. This includes the management of production, sales and marketing, continuous improvement and engineering functions through the development, coaching and motivation of team members.

Barkley continued, “D&S remains an industry forerunner in the incorporation of strategies, such as our integration of value network mapping, that assist in controlling costs and eliminating waste. By narrowing our focus to only those elements that are most critical to the success of our company, our team is able to provide customers with high quality, competitively produced components while maintaining a solid understanding of production capacity. This, in turn, reduces lead times, enabling us to be more flexible in rapidly responding to changes within the marketplace,” he explained.

As we near the completion of our extensive $6.4 million expansion plan, continue to incorporate new production technologies and live our goal of continuous improvement, I am honored to be given this opportunity,” Barkley concluded.

During his 14 year tenure with D&S, Barkley’s impressive contributions to the company include the management of Quality, Engineering and Sales. He was also responsible for the company’s achievement of ISO certification. Before arriving at D&S, Barkley served as an engineering manager for a northern Michigan metal fabrication company. He is a graduate of DeVry Institute in Chicago, Illinois.
