D&S Celebrates 50th Anniversary

To celebrate their 50th Anniversary, Mike Dougherty, President, invited the general public to an Open House at D&S Manufacturing on Saturday, May 16th. The Open House featured guided plant tours, a photo gallery and refreshments. "We are thrilled to open the plant to our neighbors and proud to show off our plate metal fabrication capabilities" stated Dougherty.

D&S Adds New Okuma MCR-A5CII Bridge Mill

D&S Manufacturing is proud to announce that its newest piece of fabrication equipment, an Okuma MCR-A5CII Bridge Mill, is up and running in their plant. A team of employee owners conducted the research that led to choosing the Okuma unit after they determined that an existing VMC needed to be replaced with a significantly larger unit. Their goal was to increase capacity and capabilities.

Through their research the team polled current customers and other Okuma users who reported excellent experiences with their units. Furthermore, the Okuma control interface was preferred by D&S operators, who were represented on the team.

D&S Adds New Fiber Optic Cutting System

D&S Manufacturing is proud to be one of the first manufacturing facilities in the U.S. to take advantage of the newest innovations in fiber optics by installing a Bystronic BySprint Pro 4020 6kw Fiber Laser cutting system.  With this new equipment D&S will continue to provide exceptional quality plate metal fabrications while reducing operating and maintenance expense.

John Barkley, Vice President and General Manager of D&S Manufacturing, announces that work has begun on a 9,300 square foot addition to their manufacturing facility. He explained that "the pursuit of our mission of long term growth, coupled with ongoing increases in sales make this the right time to follow through on expansion".

Rob Bucek, Production Control Manager at D&S Manufacturing, will speak at this year's Industry Week - Best Plants Conference. His presentation titled "Using Operation Level Metrics to Drive Strategy Success" will be made jointly with Epicor, the maker of the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software system used by D&S.

Joe Lane, Continuous Improvement Manager of D&S Manufacturing, and John Gulso, Operations Manager, will both serve as presenters at the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, International PlateFab Workshop to be held at the Thomas Nelson Community College, Hampton, VA May 6-7. The focus of the workshop is to provide up to date information on plate fabrication operations through technical presentations, case studies and plant tours.

Michael Dougherty, President of D&S Manufacturing, announced the acquisition of four new machining centers. The new equipment will increase machining capacity and allow for the retirement of well used equipment, thus preserving the company's commitment to expanding its capabilities and maintaining the most up to date equipment.

To ensure continued local ownership of the company, and to reward the employees responsible for its success, Mike Dougherty, President of D&S Manufacturing, announces that through an additional stock purchase by our ESOP trustee, the company is now majority employee-owned. Dougherty explained that the decision to make D&S Manufacturing majority employee-owned ensures that the facility will stay in Black River Falls and employee owners will continue to be motivated, productive employees. Diligence and commitment have always been the tradition and hallmark of the talented D&S workforce. D&S has been a strong and positive presence in the Black River Falls community and D&S workers are a productive, contributing part of their community.
